Postponed Reading

Due to the sheer number of snow days we've had, it will be impossible to put together the poetry reading by February 10. Stay tuned for a new meeting date so that we can move the reading to a more reasonable day.

Planning Meeting of January 11, 2011

Due to the falling snow, many did not attend this meeting...in fact, we had only one attendee...but we went ahead anyhow. The following is what we have decided:

We will be hosting a Valentine’s poetry reading on February 10 from 7-830. It will be at the Bedford Library (hopefully). We will be asking writers to share their love- themed works, either original poetry/prose or some of their favorites from other authors. We hope to have snacks and music. So, what we need: someone to contact the library and reserve it for the date and time above; some members to contact Tim Horton’s, Kroger, Food Town, and any other place we can think of to donate snacks/drinks for the event; someone to contact the Jazz Band (Hannah Skowronek?) to see if they can throw together a small combo to play for about 30 minutes or so. We also need to advertise this…think about how to do this, both at school and in the community. We want it in Bedford Now, Bedford Press, the school website, the district website, and flyers at local businesses. I think if we start on Feb 1, that will be enough notice for everyone.

We also decided that the next Mule Skimmer Literary Magazine will be published on 3/10. This means that all submissions should be made by 3/1. There will be no particular theme for this issue…just works that writers would like to share/publish. What we need: we need to start advertising this soon…in the school, on the website, via the newspaper… I would also like to involve the art department…get some submissions for cover art…just a theme that captures writingin some way…black and white photos or pen and ink drawings.
If you have any questions or any more ideas on these things, post them here.
